Loch Dunvegan Shellfish Ltd.
Captain: Willie Murdo MacKinnon
Home port: Dunvegan, Isle of Skye
What we catch: Langoustines
About our operation: Willie Murdo MacKinnon, who began fishing with his father at a very young age, started Loch Dunvegan Shellfish Ltd. After years of working on various fishing boats Willie bought his first boat, the Lesley Jane, nearly 40 years ago and began fishing out of his home port of Dunvegan.
The company now owns and operates 3 boats: Sealgair, My Amber, both of which are creel boats and a trawler, New Dawn.
Starting out when you are just knee high to a langoustine... Willie caught his first fish aged 2 and a half and was fishing for lobster at 5 years old before school.
Fishing life is not without it’s set backs...On December 3 2017 we found the Sealgair sunk at the pier. All hands set to and after fitting a new engine and new electrics she was back fishing in 3 weeks.
Eight years ago the My Amber went aground after suffering engine failure. Consequently we had to fit a new keel, half a side and a new engine.
Other than that we fish on 12 months of the year regardless of season or weather.
